2027 Switch off

The 2027 Switch-Off – What It Means for You

The UK is moving away from traditional copper-based telephone and broadband networks. By 2027, the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and ISDN lines will be fully retired and replaced with modern digital and full-fibre solutions.

This change affects almost every business that currently relies on landlines, broadband over copper, or legacy phone systems.

What’s Changing?

Old copper-based services such as:

  • PSTN phone lines

  • ISDN digital lines

  • Broadband delivered over copper infrastructure

Will no longer be supported. These services are being replaced with:

  • Full fibre broadband (FTTP)

  • Digital VoIP phone systems

  • Cloud-based communication platforms

Why Act Now?

The closer we get to 2027, the more demand there will be on installation providers and network upgrades. Businesses that plan early will benefit from:

  • Smoother transitions

  • Less downtime risk

  • Better availability of services

  • More time to test and optimise systems

Waiting until the last minute increases cost, risk, and pressure.

How It Works
  • You provide the address of the property that requires the connection. KVD will then check what services are available in your area, including fibre broadband and leased line options.

  • Once availability is confirmed, we’ll present the most suitable options for your business. This may include standard fibre broadband or a dedicated leased line, depending on your speed, reliability, and usage requirements.

  • For certain installations—particularly leased lines—a network survey may be required. This is carried out by the network provider to assess infrastructure and installation requirements. We will manage this process and keep you fully informed of the outcome and next steps.

  • Once you’ve chosen your solution, we’ll confirm your installation schedule and provide a clear activation date. We coordinate with providers to ensure the process runs smoothly and with minimal disruption to your business.

  • After installation, KVD continues to monitor your connection. If any issues or downtime occur, our team will respond quickly to resolve them and keep your business connected and running efficiently.
